WELCOME TO ANY VISITORS AND TO THOSE WHO HAVE COME TO LIVE IN THE PARISH - Please make yourself known to Father Kenneth or Deacon Michael and fill in and return the Census Form attached to the Welcome and Information Sheet if you are newly resident here.  There is a blue box for completed forms near the door.

PARISH DIARY — for 2010 now available, free of charge.

SAFEGUARDING - You may be aware of publicity around the Government's new Vetting and Barring scheme due to come into force later this year.  The Diocesan Safeguarding Office is here to help all workers and volunteers in the Diocese ensure that they are appropriately appointed in line with current government and Church guidelines.  Please be assured that compared to many other sectors and organisations the Catholic Church is in a very strong position to adapt to this new scheme.  If you have any concerns or questions about this process please contact your Parish Safeguarding Rep or the Safeguarding Office on 01752 560792

GIVE IT UP! - This year is the 50th anniversary of CAFOD Lent Fast Day.  The theme this year is “give it up!”.  Many of us plan to give something up for Lent, and it can be anything we want: biscuits, wine or buying magazines.  Just “give it up” and donate whatever you save to CAFOD.  It will help to promote lasting change for a child, a family or an entire community.   Money boxes are also available to help you make a big difference with your small change.

Envelopes for recycling-your mobile phone or inkjet cartridges to benefit CAFOD are available in the Church Hall.  A DVD on the theme “Give It Up” can be borrowed-see Fr Noakes.

FOWEY RETREAT - Robbie and Sara Low, with the support of our Vicar General Fr Robert Draper, have opened a new Retreat House in the historic Cornish harbour town of Fowey.  It provides Catholic teaching in beautiful surroundings.  See posters for programme for 2010.

MISSION TOMORROW - Take and read a free copy of the magazine produced by the Society of St Peter the Apostle, which supports seminaries in poor countries.  You will find out how you could sponsor a seminarian.

THE CATHOLIC PRIEST Answering God's Call-some free copies are available.  Archbishop Vincent Nichols has said “Undoubtedly, God continues to call men to priesthood. Books like this will help those who hear the call to recognise it for what it is”.  The book has been produced as part of the Catenians' Vocation initiative.

DEACON MICHAEL has improved the appearance of the Sacristy by fitting new cupboards and a new sink.  We are indebted to him for his generous service.

PERSECUTED AND FORGOTTEN? - This book produced by ACN (Aid to the Church in Need) highlights the hardships faced by Christians in many countries.  More Christians are persecuted than members of any other religious group.  Borrow this book from the back of Church to inform your prayers, and return it when you have read it.

PRAY-AS-YOU-GO is a daily prayer session designed for use on protable MP3 players, iPods and PCs to help you pray whilst travelling to and from work, study, etc.  A new prayer session is produced every weekday.  It is not a Thought for the Day', a sermon or a bible- study, but rather a framework for your own prayer.  Lasting between ten and thirteen minutes, it combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection.  The aim is to help you to:
become more aware of God's presence in your life
listen to and reflect on God's word
grow in your relationship with God
It is produced by Jesuit Media Initiatives, with material written by a number of British Jesuits and other experts in the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola.  Although the content is different every day, it keeps to the same basic format.  You can find it at http://www.pray-as-you-go.org.

SACRED SPACE is a similar but PC based prayer aid.  The compilers invite you to make a 'Sacred Space' in your day, and spend ten minutes praying here and now as you sit at your computer with the help of on-screen guidance and scripture chosen specially every day.  Find it at http://sacredspace.ie

“RESCUING DARWIN-GOD AND EVOLUTION IN BRITAIN TODAY” by Nick Spencer and Denis Alexander, published by Theos at £10 sounds a note of theological sanity within the media frenzy concerning Darwin and his legacy.  The authors argue that evolution does not demand atheism or amorality but is wholly compatible with a religious understanding of the universe.  You are free to download this 65 page book from www.theosthinktank.co.uk.
