Nov 2007 - We have just celebrated the feast of Christ the King in fine style with the youth sharing their talents and leading the congregation in worship through still images and liturgical dance with an array of fabulous music thanks to the talents of Faye Eldret our singer in residence and the music group! Despite the lavish description, the theme was ‘Live Simply’ and the youth portrayed their promises on a board at the front of the church showing how each individual’s contribution can make a difference. (The promises were done in hexagons which, when fitted together, gave a patchwork blanket effect). The gauntlet is now down and the challenge is to mobilise the rest of the parish into following the young people’s example. With this in mind, smaller hexagons have been displayed on one of the screens so that members of the parish can join in the ‘Live Simply’ initiative which has been promoted by CAFOD.
After the Mass, we gathered for refreshments which included a cake baked by one of our young people and coffees etc were served by members of our Confirmation group.
Finally, we had a presentation for one of our young people, who had put herself out a couple of weeks ago in fund raising for Children in Need. It was all her own idea and she, with friends, baked loads of cakes (at night), then having got permission from the Minster, carried the cakes to the green in order to sell them. She and her friends dressed in tutus despite the cold weather and managed to make £100.00. For this initiative, I had thought that she deserved the ‘alternative ASBO’ (which was being promoted by the diocesan youth newsletter) at the time. The alternative ASBO stands for Alright, Sensational, Beautiful and Original and that’s true of this person but I would also like to add Generous and Selfless but ASBOGS doesn’t have the ‘ring’ to it!!
This was a fine way to finish our Mass for Christ the King but the day was not over for our busy bunch! No! Bowling was next on the agenda as evening’s entertainment – let’s hope our next Confirmation session can strike a similar chord (excuse the pun)! Here's our young star having received her award from Fr Kenneth! |
