How are we to live today

I recently read a book on how to live a more ethical life.  The book encouraged me to think about the ways in which we live our lives today and the cost to our communities, the environment and those who live in less developed countries.  The aim of the book was to develop a mindset that promotes a better awareness and a sense of conscience about our actions.  It addressed issues such as environmental concerns, emotional wellbeing, community and other relationships and issues such as how to look at a product in a shop and relate to the person who made it.  Reading the book also raised, for me, questions about how I could make better connections between the issues under discussion, my core values and my faith.

In the recent Lenten Pastoral Newsletter the Bishop encouraged us to think about how we could look after our planet and the poor more effectively.  This occasional series will give us an opportunity to examine our conscience.  It would be difficult for many of us to make major changes and choices in the way that we live our lives.  However, we could all make a small contribution if we better understood some of the choices available to us, and by making very small changes to the way that we live our lives, if only by way of experiment.

If you would like to comment, discuss some of the issues raised, or contribute to this series, I would love to hear from you.  You can contact me through St Catherine's church presbytery.
