The Christian Meditation Group
“Be still and know that I am God”
The mind could be described as a mighty tree filled with monkeys, all swinging from branch to branch in an incessant riot of chatter and movement. Our lives are very busy. Our thoughts are constant. We find it difficult to find peace in our very full world. Sometimes we find it difficult to find God amid the noise. |
For those of us who engage in the silent prayer of Christian Mediation, also known as contemplative prayer, the task of mediation is to bring our distracted, rioting minds to stillness, silence and attentiveness to God. In meditation we go beyond words, thoughts and images into the presence of God within
The Christian Meditation group meets weekly, in the church, on Tuesday evenings from 6.45pm to 7.30pm. Our mediation practice follows that recommended by Dom John Main and the World Community for Christian Meditation; based on the prayers of the Desert Fathers (fourth and fifth centuries A.D.). After sharing a short teaching, we meditate in silence but together, knowing that “where two or three meet in my name, I shall be there with them” (Mt 18:20). You can find out more about Christian Meditation by visiting www.wccm.org |
If you would like to share these evenings with us or just join us for one, please come along to the church or alternatively, speak to Rosalind Stockley (01258 841390), Canon Kenneth or Deacon Michael. |
