Developing a Vision of Catholic Life in Poole, Dorset
In January 2008 the four parishes of Poole, namely St Mary’s, St Joseph’s, Our Lady of Fatima, and St Anthony of Padua came together to create the Poole Unit Steering Group (PUSG) with the objective of developing a long-term plan to safeguard and enhance Catholic life in Poole. The PUSG was formed in response to Bishop Christopher’s document entitled 'Pastoral Re-Organisation in the Diocese of Plymouth - Principles, Strategy and Framework' which was published in 2007.
The initial tasks of the PUSG were to carry out a survey of parish resources and an audit of our parishioners (worship patterns and preferences, membership of ministries, involvement in parish organisations etc). It took a long time for us to devise the audit and an equally long time to analyse the results. However all this was successfully completed by the end of 2009.
With information to hand, and the four parishes having now established a good working relationship, 2010 has seen the real beginning of us ‘Developing our Vision’. The PUSG has monthly meetings and one of the things we have realised is how difficult it is to keep our Parishioners (and maybe others in the Deanery and Diocese) informed as to how things are developing.
In an attempt to make things more open we intend to publish the minutes of our meetings and other appropriate information here. Please check this information regularly to keep informed.
The PUSG team has worked extremely well together and this gives great encouragement and optimism for the future, but much work remains to be done.
